Ceramic Shell Investment

Vanguard Sculpture Services, Ltd uses ceramic shell investment as the next step after making a wax model of an original sculpture. This multi layer ceramic investment uses a first layer that captures the detail of the wax and subsequent layers that add strength. Each layer is added by dipping in a liquid suspension of particles and binder followed by an application of silica sand. A binding layer of stainless wire is often used to strengthen the finished investment.
