This pelican sculpture, done by the WPA, had lost its beak, had lichens
growing on it, was very dirty and had freeze-thaw damage. We cleaned
it, re-sculpted the missing parts from photographs and re-modeled the
damaged surface areas. We then made a mold of the re-constructed
sculpture and cast it using concrete. The original is now kept indoors to preserve
it. You can see the reproduction at Boerner Botanical Gardens in Hales Corners,
Wisconsin.
